    Description

Tie downs opposite wind sock mid field.  USFS campsite behind the tie downs.   Trail to hot springs is at north end of field - not marked, don't take the one that has a sign with trail #147.  The hot springs trail goes off at an angle just south, down to a dirt road leading up to a another nice campsite and then a trail continues to the hot springs.    There is a bath house with tub and several different shallow pools of varying temperatures to choose from.  Nice walk and the hot springs are interesting.

Warm Springs Trail- Ridaho Grit3 Route

The Warm Springs Trail is one of the premier trails on the Lowman Ranger District.

The trail is noteworthy as part of the larger loop opportunity for motorcyclists and a one-way trail from Bull Trout to Bonneville for mountain bikers.

From the trailhead near Bull Trout Lake Campground, the trail follows undulating terrain through lodgepole pine forests for over 2 miles.

It then descends steeply into Deadman Canyon and crosses Deadman Creek multiple times in the next several miles; this section of the trail is the most difficult to negotiate.

At the bottom of Deadman Canyon, the trail follows Warm Springs Creek through a fairly wide drainage and crosses the creek on a large bridge about halfway down the canyon. This section of trail has both short climbs and descents.

There is a significant climb of just over 2 miles as you leave the canyon bottom which turns into a narrow rocky gorge.

As the trail climbs, it provides nice views of the creek in the gorge below. The trail then intersects with the Link Trail.

Turn left for the final downhill stretch to the trailhead at the Warm Spring Airstrip.

A popular motorcycle loop combines this trail with the Kirkham Ridge and Link Trails. All trails in this loop require advanced motorcycle riding skills.

The preferred mountain bike route is from the northern trailhead to the southern trailhead. Mountain bikers should be prepared for a strenuous ride when attempting this trail.

Although it appears to be mostly downhill, there are plenty of uphill sections that require significant effort.

Additionally, most of the riding is on single track which requires advance bike handling skills. Hikers will find that the first few miles of trail from either trailhead provide nice out and back hiking opportunities.

A 2+ mile hike from the south trailhead provides spectacular views of a narrow gorge at the end of Warm Springs Creek.

Finding An Incredible Campsite Next To A River Hot Spring

If you can only do one trip in the Lowman area, this is the one to do. Warm Springs Creek meets the mighty Payette River in Lowman Idaho literally under highway 21. Near this confluence is the Warm Springs trailhead which can take you to some far, remote, and stunning locations such as Eightmile Mountain, Bull Trout Lake, and the Sawtooth Recreation Area. We take a look at the first 2.4 miles of this hike, which makes for a spectacular day trip hike, or a solid overnight backpacking trip. Full of challenging switchbacks, wildflowers, hot springs, camping spots, and stunning views, hiking along Warm Springs Creek is a Pacific Northwest adventure not to be missed!

Big Creek, ID (U60) - Approach and Landing

Approach and Landing at Big Creek (U60) in June in a Cessna 182. There are several ways to approach this landing, and since it was my first time we took the extended route flying through the bottom of the mountain for a nice long approach. You can make a shorter left base if you are familiar with the terrain, or the mountain also supports a right base if you can turn around in the bowl to the north of the airstrip. As always use lots of caution and careful planning when going into new mountainous airstrips.

We landed at Johnson Creek, Sulphur Creek, Indian Creek, Thomas Creek, Big Creek, The Flying B, and Lower Loon. Most of these strips are along the banks of the Middle fork Salmon river.
