Utah Backcountry Flying - Hidden Splender

Well used strip, very smooth. There are some drop-offs on either side of the runway. Do-Not wander off the runway! It seems to be a hot spot for campers and RVs with at least on person camping on the runway. Also a few porta-pottys on the stip? The awesome approach sure makes the strip. Taking off with the canyon behind you still leaves some high terrain to clear. It would be a problem on a hot and heavy day. An immediate left turn to the west does offer some lower terrain.

Nice strip just south of Hidden Splendor. Runway is very smooth, east end is washed out for first hundred feet or so. Crossing runway also looks good, but a little more rough. There is an old open pit mine on approach landing to the west.

Utah Backcountry Flying - Red Canyon

Red Canyon is right around the corner from Fry Canyon. Only one half was usable and was pretty rough from the patches of grass. There was also many small cactus scattered around and a couple softball size rocks. If a couple bushes were removed this would be a international airport.
