    Description

This is an unattended small town airport about 2.5 miles from Wells, NV.  Angel lake is about 20 miles and a 3,000 foot climb on paved road from here.  Definatley a worthy trip for bicycle enthusists flying in with their own bikes.  This is also a great place to visit if you can arrange your own transportation.  From the airport, take the highway into Wells and find your way to the western-most freway on-ramp.  From there, take the frontage road (follow the signs) to Angel Lake.  The lake sits just above 8,000 feet at the tip of the East Humbolt Range and is stocked with fish regularly.  Two USFS campgrounds, one at the lake, and the other one on the access road are both great campgrounds with easy paved road access.

As an added attraction, two local brothels in Wells provide airport pick-up service (yes, these are legal & fully licensed establishments).

Our Search for Historic Markers in Jackson County (Windows In Time)

Both Linda and Peter Kreisman grew up in Ashland. They left in 1961 and spent their careers in Minnesota. When they returned to Ashland for retirement, they began a search for the seemingly mythical Buck Rock Railroad Tunnel they had heard about while growing up. When they finally found one end of the tunnel, there was a historical marker giving information about the site. This started them on a search for other such markers, and over the past 12 years, Peter and Linda have found over 90 sites and markers. The sites represent historic transportation routes, town sites, military and Native American sites, and cemeteries. In their Windows in Time presentation, Linda and Peter will present a variety of the sites they have found in Jackson County.

ENGAGER Training School 2: Mainstreaming Innovative Energy Poverty Metrics (http://www.engager-energy.net/trainingschool2/)

Module 5: EP indicators, policy impact and hidden energy poverty

Trainers: Raúl Castaño-Rosa, Sergio Tirado Herrero

Following the legislative mandate of Directive 2019/944, EU member states have put in place monitoring and reporting frameworks that contribute to a better recognition of energy poverty. These metrics emphasise indoor thermal discomfort, low incomes and high energy bills, which are symptoms rather than root causes of domestic energy deprivation. Institutional recognition through indicators, however, comes at the expense of hidden aspects (seldom recognised in the scientific literature but even less so in policy practice) of the lived experience of energy poverty, such as household indebtedness, disconnections and precarious, informal or irregular connections. In this vein, the Spain hub aims to critically examine existing institutional indicators and to discuss new metrics for better civic engagement and policy-making. The hub module relies on ongoing work of the host institution (UC3M) in the Energy Poverty Intelligence Unit (EPIU) and the Cañada Real Galiana projects. Both projects seek to identify hidden energy poverty and establish an innovative support mechanism for vulnerable households in Spain’s Madrid region.

Listening to the invisible energy groups through four Spanish cases - Raúl Castaño-Rosa

59:00-1:15:00 Hands-on exercise set-up followed by plenary discussion

The Spanish Government launched the country’s first National Strategy against Energy Poverty in April 2019. Among other actions, it sets an official statistical framework for monitoring the incidence of energy poverty and assessing the impact of relevant policies through the four main indicators of the European Observatory of Energy Poverty (EPOV): High share of energy expenditure in income (2M); Low absolute energy expenditure (M/2); Inability to keep home adequately warm; and Arrears on utility bills. Thinking of the biases and omissions introduced by official metrics, we ask each group to answer the three questions below:

      ● Which forms and what dimensions of energy poverty are currently going unrecognised by the Spanish Strategy and the EPOV indicators in the EU?
      ● Which groups are more likely to experience these unrecognised forms of energy poverty?
      ● What data and indicators could be used for an improved recognition of the above?

1:15:00-1:56:00 Presentation by trainee group followed by plenary discussion

As a follow-up to the ENGAGER Energy Rights Forum, the Spain hub trainee group made a group presentation answering the three main questions of the ‘Invisible energy precarity groups’ session:

      ● What needs to be done?
      ● What are the barriers to achieve what needs to be done?
      ● Who should be involved in the solution?

Climate Solutions That Go Beyond Carbon: Scalable Solar

Our state is at the precipice of unlocking solar as a major climate solution. In this webinar, you'll hear from the changemakers who are holding the keys, helping us accelerate our best ideas to solve for climate change.

How can we ensure that solar projects promote equity and climate justice? How do we protect fragile ecosystems and support biodiversity as we continue to build new large-scale solar installations? What role can Georgia-grown highway solar projects play in scaling these solutions across the country?

At our inaugural webinar, we answer all of these questions and more.

      The virtual conversation includes:
      - Moderator James Marlow, CEO and founder of Clean Energy Advisors
      - Lenwood Coleman, chief program officer at Groundswell
      - Allie Kelly, executive director at The Ray
      - Michael O’Reilly, director of policy and climate strategy for The Nature Conservancy in Georgia

Watch now to learn all about how these solar innovators are helping to bring climate solutions home.

(3/22/2021) SCSU = St. Cloud State University

Now we begin the SCSU uploads! I decided to stop and explore this campus as it seemed interesting, and I knew they would have some elevators! This is the only parking garage on campus, and they have this cool ThyssenKrupp elevator! This thing is nice for a parking garage. It has a nice cab, runs well (minus a few noises), and is in great shape overall! I like the view this thing has, and the newer ThyssenKrupp traditional call stations with the arrow are rare. I assume they were gonna make this garage 5 floors (which would explain the 2 blank buttons), but they decided to make it three instead.

      Brand: ThyssenKrupp
      Type: Hydraulic (Oildraulic)
      Capacity: 4,000 LBS
      Floors Served: 3 (1,2,3)
Landings Served: 3 (Same as above)
      Door Type: Two-Speed Sliding

Fixture Type: Newer ThyssenKrupp Traditional (Call Stations)/MAD BS Classic (COP)

*Note: I am making smart decisions about filming during the pandemic. I am trying to film in places that aren't busy (like empty Parking Garages or Office Buildings). I am wearing a mask and sometimes gloves. Please don't comment about how I should not be filming right now. I can make my own decisions, and you can't control me. To those who are filming, say safe and healthy out there!

    • Henderson Speaks: Desert to Green Valley

Henderson Speaks: Desert to Green Valley

Desert to Green Valley – How Did It Happen? (03-15-2017)

Learn the history of Green Valley’s large-scale, master-planned community, including its role in Henderson’s population growth to 280,000 people in just four decades. Our speakers include:

Brian L. Greenspun - Brian Greenspun and the Greenspun family have played a major role in the growth and development of the Las Vegas Valley. Mr. Greenspun’s father, Hank Greenspun came to Las Vegas in 1946 and had a remarkable career. He was one of Southern Nevada’s top land developers and it was his imagination that led to the creation of Green Valley. Hank Greenspun’s son, Brian and the Greenspun family continued in their patriarch’s footsteps, seeing the Green Valley project to completion. The Henderson Historical Society is honored to have Brian Greenspun as a speaker in its upcoming presentation tracing the history of Green Valley.

Mark L. Fine -- was President of America Nevada Corporation guiding the development of Green Valley for 17 years. During his tenure, Green Valley was rated one of the nation’s fastest growing communities. Mr. Fine was a builder who sought to create communities in which neighbors would take a sense of pride. To create this social environment in Green Valley, inspiration was drawn from the Shaker Heights neighborhood in Cleveland, Ohio, where Mr. Fine grew up. Open spaces, parks, public art, schools and libraries have always been priorities in his developments. Mr. Fine’s public art program, which featured outdoor sculpture throughout Green Valley, was embraced by the community and was rated “Best of the Best” by the Las Vegas Review-Journal.

Robert E. Campbell – was Senior Vice President and General manager of the Green Valley development from 1981 to 1985. He brought with him a wealth of experience in public administration, having held prior positions in school administration and City Management. He was the Director of Transportation for the Columbia Missouri Public Schools as well as City Manager in Booneville and Excelsior Springs, Missouri and in Henderson, Nevada before his work guiding aspects of the Green Valley development. Mr. Campbell’s memories of the challenges involved in coordinating private and public interests in such a massive venture as the Green Valley project will add a great deal of interest to the presentation, “Desert to Green Valley”.

Brad Nelson – was COO Development/Senior Vice-President of America Nevada Corporation, 1984 to 1999 during which time he completed the master planning, entitlements, as well as development and sales of Green Valley, Green Valley Ranch and Seven Hills in Henderson, totaling over 15,000 residential units and 450 acres of commercial, office and industrial areas on 9,700 acres. Mr. Nelson has photos including aerials of the region that will remind us of how things have changed in our desert during these past thirty some years.
