In November 2009, I flew to Monument Valley with my flying buddies Paul and Mike. We continued on for 3 days of flying and two nights of camping at Utah backcountry airstrips strips. The first was Nokai Dome, on a rise overlooking the San Juan River and Lake Powell.

Before EDiTH was EDiTH, it was Chopper 5. And it was John Robinson, Ryan Long and Jake Johnson. And it rocked.

West side of the strip was in excellent condition. Looked recently graded. The second half of runway was narrow but still pretty smooth. Looked to be some recent off-road activity.

Very well used. Redtail aviation lands here pretty often. The north south runway is a little shorter. And it did have a little turbulence with the wind.

Nice strip up on the mesa just east of happy canyon. Elevation is pretty high here and runway is in good shape. A jeep trail crosses the runway and is a little smoother before it landing south.

Fry Canyon was a little overgrown but was in good shape. A road crossed the first third of the runway and was pretty rutted. At the time it was landable before the road. If you follow the road down the hill about a 1/3 mile and follow the cliff you'll find the anasazi cliff dwellings.
