    Description

    Location Overview
Morgan Ranch Airstrip sits along Sulphur Creek in the heart of the Frank Church Wilderness, about 32 miles east of Cascade, Idaho, at an elevation of roughly 5,634 feet. The property is near where Sulphur Creek meets the Middle Fork of the Salmon River, placing it in some of the most rugged and remote backcountry terrain in the Lower 48.

    Camping & Recreation
The ranch itself functions as a private guest retreat rather than a public camping area, but it offers plenty to enjoy for those with permission to visit. The property includes a natural hot spring bathing pool and a spring-fed swimming pool, along with a comfortable log lodge and a guest house with a large stone fireplace that sleeps seven. The surrounding wilderness offers world-class hunting, fishing, and hiking, and the nearby Middle Fork of the Salmon River is famous for whitewater rafting.

    Notes & Warnings
This is a strictly private strip, not open to transient traffic. The airfield is private and landing is by prior permission for guests only, with no drop-in visits allowed. The typical traffic pattern is downwind to the north, right base, then final to the south, and pilots should taxi to the intersection for parking. Pilots need to bring their own tie-downs, and per current field data, no fuel or repair services are available on site, and the airport is non-towered with a CTAF of 122.9. The grass runway measures about 2,600 feet, and given the high elevation, mountain terrain, and narrow canyon approach, this is a strip suited only to experienced backcountry pilots.

    History
The Morgan Ranch has served as the summer home for the Morgan family since 1947. It was built by doctors Ben and Freda Morgan, who established a working retreat that blended rustic ranch living with the natural amenities of the surrounding wilderness, including its hot springs. The ranch predates the formal designation of the Frank Church River of No Return Wilderness (created in 1980), making it one of the historic inholdings that give the region its network of private backcountry airstrips tied to old homestead and guest-ranch operations along the Middle Fork corridor.
