    • Solo Desert Island Camping in my Super Cub

Solo Desert Island Camping in my Super Cub

This time I point my 1954 Piper Super Cub to the West Coast. Towards a tiny Island off the coast of the Pacific where there’s just enough room to land my airplane. I setup camp for the night, encounter wildlife and enjoy the little island’s charm. I enjoy some beverages as well as a steak dinner and play some camp fire music.

All music in this video is played/recorded by yours truly.

      Thanks for coming along

The Village of Masset is a small fishing village located on Graham Island - the largest of the more than 150 islands that comprise the archipelago of Haida Gwaii (Islands of the People).
Located along the north-west coast of British Columbia the Village of Masset provides access to northern Naikoon Provincial Park, is the western terminus (Mile 0) of the Yellowhead Highway (HWY 16), and is at the heart of of a unique and vibrant Islands culture.
The first aircraft to operate in the vicinity of Masset, B.C., was a 1918 Boeing C-672 Model 5, based some 25 miles to the south west of the village at Naden Harbour and operated by Consolidated Whaling Corporation of Victoria, B.C., after its purchase on June 1, 1925. This floatplane was involved in an accident May 25, 1926, and was written off.
In the spring and summer of 1943 the RCAF began to concentrate on constructing land-based air stations on the west coast: RCAF Stations Comox, Port Hardy, Tofino and Sandspit were constructed by No. 9 CMU. During July the Unit set a record for the construction of a landing strip. In two weeks of solid effort and organized team work the Unit completed the construction of a perforated steel plate runway at Masset in the Queen Charlotte Islands.
Todays Masset Airport (IATA: ZMT, ICAO: CZMT) is located 1.5 nautical miles (2.8 km; 1.7 mi) northeast of Masset, British Columbia, Canada. In 2008, the airport began services using a Boeing 737 jet.

Cessna flight flying out of the Pitt Meadows airport (YPK) to Tofino, BC.

Flying from the lower mainland to Tofino is such a fantastic route. City, mountains, forest, ocean - what more could you ask for? The weather for this flight could not have been better.

I took a bit of 4k footage once we got there. Check my other video if you are curious: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H8kK67Zv-P0
