      Swannell River Airstrip Overivew

An overflight, low approach, landing, and takeoff on the Swannell River airstrip near Ingenika BC. The airstrip was in great shape. It's about 5000' of well packed gravel with good approaches. It does see some use by people on ATVs and 4x4s so a careful inspection must be made for any ruts they may leave. There are also a couple potholes that are harmless when dry (I taxied through a couple of them at 30 mph no problem) but when they are wet they will likely fill with water.

Pilots enjoy going to the beach as much as anyone else, we just visit different beaches. This is Burnett Bay, British Columbia you can only get there by airplane or boat.
    • Likely BC Short Field Practice

      Likely BC Short Field Practice

We went down to the bustling metropolis of Likely BC to practice
techniques for flying in to short gravel strips at high density
altitude. Likely is 3225' asl and at 29C its density altitude is about
5500' which significantly taxes aircraft performance. At 3200' in
length it's not overly short, leaving some room for developing skills. There is also somewhat challenging terrain to deal with around the airport which makes it a great spot to practice.

The Piper Cherokee is no one's idea of a bush plane. It has a short
span, low aspect ratio wing with a laminar flow airfoil and simple
plain flaps. This design does have some advantages, however good handling characterstics on the back side of the drag curve, adequate drag for steep approaches, and low speed elevator authority are not among them.

Despite these limitations a Cherokee will perform a whole lot better than most would expect if the airplane is kept light and some different techniques than the POH calls for are used to mitigate some of the disadvantages.

Tsay Keh Dene Nation - Ingenika Protected Area

The Ingenika is of crucial importance to Tsay Keh Dene Nation historically, ecologically, culturally and spiritually. It is one of the last refuges in a territory devastated by the Williston Reservoir and unsustainable development. Tsay Keh Dene Nation are building an Indigenous Management plan for the Ingenika, work is ongoing and we need your help.

      Takeoff and Landing in Vanderhoof

This is my first attempt at a flying video with my new Garmin VIRB. It was shot furing a fuel run to Vanderhoof in my 1966 Piper Cherokee 180. The lighting that evening was excellent and I really like the shadows in this video. I need to refine my camera mount to try to cut down on some of the vibration and jello effect. Best watched in HD.
