    • Swannell River Airstrip Overivew

      Swannell River Airstrip Overivew

An overflight, low approach, landing, and takeoff on the Swannell River airstrip near Ingenika BC. The airstrip was in great shape. It's about 5000' of well packed gravel with good approaches. It does see some use by people on ATVs and 4x4s so a careful inspection must be made for any ruts they may leave. There are also a couple potholes that are harmless when dry (I taxied through a couple of them at 30 mph no problem) but when they are wet they will likely fill with water.

    • Mount Pope Flight in HD March 10 2013

Mount Pope Flight in HD March 10 2013

I flew to Fort St. James for brunch with friends and then on the way home flew a loop around Mount Pope. It was really windy but luckily it was straight down the runway from the west. You can see the windsock sticking straight out when I take off at the beginning of the video. I love how the sun peeked through the clouds. I think the contrast of the blue sky, clouds and Stuart Lake looks amazing when I get around the west side of Mount Pope and turn back towards the airport. I want to fly over Cheslatta Falls and Kenny Dam next.

I'm uploading this in high definition for the first time. I also figured out how to control the GoPro camera with my iphone!

MIND BLOWING MOMENTS CAUGHT ON CAMERA!

(Transcript: A UFC fighter, Anthony Pettis performed a super kick off the cage, which looked like it was from a movie. Here is just to show you at how much damage water can cause, by being dropped really high from an excavator, right on top of this car. This gymnast added an extra difficulty level on the bars, and still managed to pull it off very smoothly. When this dog was being recorded, it was the perfect time for him to suddenly show off his dancing skills. Upon delivering a pizza to it’s destined location, a monkey opens the door and pays for the pizza, while all dressed up just like a regular person. When these pilots were about to land during heavy rain, the runway completely disappeared from their view, and had to quickly abort the landing. A cake artist can make hyper-realistic looking cakes, meaning they can create cakes that look like into every day objects. You might think this video is reversed, but it’s not, this swimmer can dive and swim backwards, without a big deal. Instead of the traditional flying RC helicopters and airplanes, this man took his lawnmower designed plane for a flight. At the last minute somehow the basketball bounces off the cables, and still manages to go in the hoop just before the buzzer. This guy made a hand made mono-wheel bike, and took it out for a drive on the road when it was finally finished. A baseball player managed to do continues pitch backs without ever stopping, despite some saying the video could be fake. An old man at the beach made some kids dreams come true, by making the largest blow bubbles they could ever hope for.
Here’s a mind-blowing coordination in South Korea where each individual flips through their colored jackets, to create a cool animated display. David Blaine the magician magically removed this strangers teeth and quickly made them re-appear again in an instant, which made the people around lose their minds. A theatrical Russian dance will have you mesmerized at how perfect each one of the dancers does their part. You’d think that golf is somewhat already hard to begin with, but this golfer Vijay Singh takes it to another level, by skipping the ball over the water and still making the shot. Heres what the traffic looks like in East Africa where there are no signs of traffic lights anywhere to be found, and everyone just maneuvers around each other. If this driver didn’t have a dash-cam installed, they wouldn’t have caught this strangers attempting insurance fraud taking to the next level. A group of people shouted together to send some vibrations to remove the pile of snow sitting on the roof. This guy does the best impression of a chainsaw and even manages to take down a branch. When you slam dunk so you hard that you leave with breaking the backboard into pieces. Heres a very rare and a difficult skill that probably no one could ever accomplish by juggling and playing the piano at the same time.)

      Clearing the Peace

      Date produced: 1970
Description: An historical look at the engineering program's clearing of the Peace River dam pondage area under what is now Williston Lake.

This production is one of a collection of historical films and videos that were digitized as part of the celebration of the centenary of the BC Forest Service in 2012. Digitization was done through a grant from the UBC Ike Barber Learning Centre and funding from the BC Forest Service Centenary Society.

This production is presented by the BC Forest Service for educational and historical reference purposes only. It represents the public policies, activities, technology and understanding of natural resource management at the date it was produced. It is hoped that by sharing these historical perspectives we can better understand the evolution in technology and knowledge that the BC Forest Service has experienced since 1912.

First off I want to send my condolences off to the families, friends, colleagues of the crew and passengers involved in this tragic event. Now, I didn't know any of the persons that were a part of this horrific crash I just feel (being a pilot myself) that it was neccessary out of respect to make this tribute video. Secondly, another reason also is to commend the heroism associated with this tragedy! Not only from the ground (bystanders rushing and opening the left rear door of burning fuselage and pulling passengers out) but from the air as well with the 2 pilots! Sr Cpt Fortin along with F/O Robic did what all they could to put the plane down in the safest manner possible along Russ Baker Way during rush hour traffic at 16:14 local time 23:14 zulu.
I added the atc transmissions courtesy of liveatc.net. Where everything seemed normal from takeoff to the departure climb before they had a mechanical issue about 60km/38mi NE of Vancouver enroute to Kelowna where they elected to return back to YVR. Even their final approach leg was fine and Vancouver Tower asked the crew if they needed equipment on standby and the response was negative (as you can hear in the video) Something horrible happened less then a mile from touchdown. If it wasn't for the heroic crew there would of been a far higher number of injuries and possible fatalities. RIP Cpt Fortin! You sir died a hero!! F/O Robic and 3 others in critical condition and the 3 also in serious but stable condition .. Our prayers are with you!!
