    Description

Clear Creek International is a private airstrip located about 8 miles south of Kooskia, Idaho. Landings are by permission only. This requirement is due to the difficult approach and departure. Although the actual runway is 1250 feet long landings are displaced down the runway due to obstructions on the approach end in the form of tall cotton-wood trees and powerlines. A tight right right turn to a steep final is required.

High performance/STOL aircraft are required. This is not an airstrip for a tired Cessna 172 on a hot day. For permission to land please contact James Black, the owner at 509-714-3201.

This is a short grass runway, and it is uphill facing both directions. You always takeoff uphill, and you always land uphill. It takes longer to takeoff uphill, but it is better to land uphill than downhill. This was at a high density altitude (the airplane performs less at thigh density altitude). Notice we are off the ground right as we are passing our abort point (there will be a pile of big pipes along the left side). This is Slate Creek, ID and this runway has a unique traffic pattern, because it is in its own little river valley surrounded by tall, steep hills.

The Miami River evolved over thousands of years from a tidal channel into a freshwater stream that carried water from the Everglades to Biscayne Bay. It is the oldest natural landmark in Southeast Florida. The 5.5-mile (8.9 km) long river flows from the terminus of the Miami Canal at Miami International Airport to Biscayne Bay. The 15-foot deep navigable waterway's shoreline features public riverwalks, city parks, over 7,000 new residential units, 17 restaurants, and 16 historic sites.
