    Description

This airport is a difficult, short (700 feet) runway located approximately five miles up Big Creek from Vines airstrip, at the confluence of Acorn Creek and Big Creek. The strip has a substantial upslope, ending in a slightly sloped turnaround area and a rock/dirt wall. The approach is blind and the runway is nearly perpendicular to the river. Typical approach is upstream following the canyon, with a left turn followed by a hard right turn to land. Pilots often touch down while still turning. Departure is a low, slow, hard left turn followed by a right turn downstream. For Super Cub type aircraft, upstream go-arounds are possible until the turn to final.  Operations are only practical in no-wind conditions.

Fishing in Big Creek is generally good, and there are plenty of suitable camping spots.

Being in a designated wilderness, this airstrip gets a lot of scrutiny from the Forest Service - please avoid excessive operations.
