    Description

Big Indian Creek Cabin - Kenai National Wildlife Refuge | Open Year-Round

Tucked along the north bank of Big Indian Creek, this secluded cabin sits in a flat, forested setting of spruce and birch with views of the creek. It's a true remote escape into the northeast interior of the Refuge — prime territory for moose, black and brown bears, and wolves. Hunting and trapping are permitted, and winter brings excellent conditions for cross-country skiing and snowshoeing.

    The Cabin
Sleeps 6, with two bunk beds, a wood stove, table with benches, and basic supplies including a broom, shovel, water bucket, and fire extinguisher. An established campfire ring and outhouse are on-site.

    Getting Here
The cabin is accessible by wheeled airplane via the unmaintained Big Indian Creek airstrip (at pilot's own risk), 4×4 vehicle, or snowmobile. Mystery Creek Road is open to licensed wheeled vehicles from August through September only — it is gated and closed to wheeled traffic the remainder of the year. In winter, contact Refuge Headquarters in Soldotna to confirm current snowmobile access.

    What to Bring
There is no running water or electricity. Pack in potable water or plan to boil surface water for at least 5 minutes before drinking. Bedding, cooking utensils, cut firewood, and a personal camp stove are all recommended additions to your kit. Pack out all trash.

    A Note on Preparedness
The remoteness of this cabin means you should come ready for the unexpected. Inclement weather can extend your stay without warning — plan accordingly and be prepared for emergency situations.

Managed by Kenai National Wildlife Refuge. Consult Alaska Department of Fish & Game regulations for current hunting and fishing rules.
