Amphitheatre Creek Strip | Wrangell Mts, Alaska | Geoff Oliver

Amphitheatre Creek Strip in the Wrangell Mountains, Alaska. This turned out to be a pretty cool video I think. Maybe it was the planes landing over me or the lighting. This is about 18 miles northeast of McCarthy, Alaska at the toe of the Nizina Glacier. It's about 900' long.

With the water level of Eklutna Lake quite high, the lower portion of the Airstrip is flooded, making for an interesting-looking approach. My Dad took this video, and his forward visibility was zilch with the hulking German in front of him. The view out the sides was quite good, have a look....

Depart Peavine airstrip; Land Wolverine Airstrip to the W of McCarthy, Alaska. Have to do this on a low wind day as it is up on a mountain top. Definitely one of the coolest places I've ever landed!
