Hidden Splendor, UT - Canyon Approach and Landing (Utah backcountry ) HD

Canyon approach and landing on runway 34 at Hidden Splendor, UT airstrip in the Utah back country with a Super Stinson 108-2.

This is hard packed old rugged mining airstrip on the muddy river with access to great hiking. No facilities. Hazards include narrow canyon approach, box canyon, soft sand on edges of runway 16/34, drop off on edges and north and south end of runway, narrow runway, up to 1ft shrubs on edges of runway, density altitude, and canyon / mountain weather, windshear. Please proceed with caution and make sure the weather is on your side. Also, make sure your piloting skills are top notch.

Southern Utah Backcountry Plane Camping: Mineral Canyon & Hidden Splendor

We embarked on a Utah Backcountry Adventure. Join us as we depart West Desert Airpark (UT9) in a RANS S-20 Raven.

      Nick Maughan: Pilot
      Matt Logan: Videographer & Photographer

After a quick pit stop at Huntington (69V) the Premier Utah "Front Country" Airport we scoped out Cedar Mountain Airstrip (Elevation 7538 ft MSL) and Mexican Mountain Airstrip (Elevation 4461 ft MSL). The winds and runway conditions kept us flying by and we caught our breath at Green River Airport (U34) before heading downstream to Mineral Canyon Airstrip (UT75 Elevation 3946 ft MSL). We camped overnight and the sky was so clear you could see the airplane shadows cast by a half moon. We woke up and were wheels up in the still morning air and headed for Hidden Splendor Airstrip (Elevation 4819 MSL).

After breakfast and enjoying the scenery we had to make a quick fuel stop at Richfield (KRIF). Civilization quickly came back into view of the cockpit and we caught some sights from the air finally landing happy and tired from the adventure back home at West Desert (UT9).

West Desert Airpark: https://www.wdaviators.com/ NOTE: The aircraft was plenty far away from the fire at night as to not cause any fire hazard, and all drone regulations were followed. Have a rad day, and thanks for watching this footy!
